KE-ABANG-AN

I watched this Korean (unsure whether its North or South of the land) movie last night (Dec 9, 2010 - 2009 hr - at home). I couldn't even recalled the title because its Korean. "Deabukgi"? No, its "Taegukgi", maybe. I actually don't do Korean series or movies much. But this one suggested by my dolmat so i guess its must be 'one heck of a story'. Review from others that had watched the movie also favoring this story of 'unsought brothers' who turn out to be soldiers in their countries expense which is the South Korea and if i'm not mistaken, the setting where its all started was in Seoul.

I'm here not to review on the story, because i'm not an expert. the story presenting a real life attitude of a brother. The eldest especially. Like me. I'm the eldest of my family and not only that, i'm the earliest baby that came out from my father side, which means, i'm the eldest grandchildren, which makes me, very grand! hahaha.

The most common thing that we see, the attributes of all "Grand-Brother" is that, they do things not for themselves. Frankly speaking, they are not. Its kind like, we have this two gunny of rice on both of our shoulder, its like we have to sent these load of burden to its destination by our own bare foot. "We live to deliver". We just couldn't stand to see our flesh and blood look silly and worthless. It is our obligation to move them up the hierarchy, with all pain and sweat, without knowing days or dark, through all the ugly and worst. Let our body be the stepping stone for others to leap further. We don't mind. That was on the movie too, the elder brother quit school to get married (every bro did this, so what?) and foremost, to see his younger brother get tertiary education and change the family fortune. Would any level of brother or sister in the family other than the oldest done the same? Never!

The thing is, we all big brother loves to get things done in our own way. So what? God created us with perfect mind to sets up everything in perfect style. And sometimes, it goes beyond the boundary, like marriages. Or other things. As long as we "crossed the line", until then, we will be happy. Yeah, maybe it'll raised eyebrow from people that passed by, but that don't slow us down. The game plan is typical, simple and achievable. Its all written down on all script in the world. "Adikku, belajar rajin-rajin, jangan risau pasal duit, adik pergi sekolah, belajar pandai-pandai, ubah nasib keluarga, tolong mak ayah," and so on so forth. Whereas, we do the dirty thing.

On the more urban family setup, this "old figure" of the family is the trend setter. We set the bar. Whose come next must jump higher or at least be at par. Actually, its not that hard to overtake or becoming a better person then them. They already draw the line, make a trail, just follow suit or continue what they started. Dead easy.

Best part is, big bro is always not a man of words, they didn't talk much. To be precise, we love privacy and keep secrets. A lot of secret. But its actually for greater goods, not to hide a scandals or betrayal. There always plan on his head. There always a shortcut to the intended places. As long as all get there, by any means, any how. It doesn't matter. We've been created by God to be good at not showing passion, to hide tears, to send loves without literally saying it. Ego they say, but do we care? No, we just been big bro, you need to know.

"Taegukgi" might not been my favorite, but it does leave a mark. Until then, people need to appreciate their elder brother even more because they have absorb all the pain during tough times. We don't need people to smooch us with kisses, hugs, and all the girlish thing. Its more than enough by saying "Bang, aku bangga dengan ko bang, bile aku besar nanti, aku nak jadi macam ko". Simple. People like us will keep it straight and easy. But still, a lot of them out there find us very irritating. So what? "Aku kan abang!"
