The thing is, its really like a battle of Syetan Vs kak Limah, M. Night Syamalan Vs Mamat Khaled, David Vs Goliath, and it seems to be theres no ending to this streak.
VS
I like both of the team, its my favorite genre, thriller and horror. The former is quite heavy and hard to received the message sent. Because its related to other religion, something I don't want to comment on. Yet, the moral is all that count. Its about giving a second chance. Not everyone could have such a blessing. But if they do, take it to the fullest. But some even get third, fourth, fifth and so on, chances. But still, they never turnaround. The director really knows how to play with imagination and belief and runaway from the typical. I bet this guy who wrote the story have been there, in such situation, that take him to that extend.
The element of surprise makes this cramped movie (because the main scene located in a elevator) joy to watch. Who would expect, people that get stuck inside the lift, dead, one by one, in front of each other, without expecting there's a devil lurking among them, and play pretend, that "its" already a dead granny without any identification. Thats how I see it. The devil took the sinner, person at a time, in sequence, as their dark secret unveil by the cops that try to pulled them out of it. And in the end, even the cop get his story on the chapter as one of the victim had done something that sees him to lost his family.
I don't know if they're trying to say that their religion or race were beyond doubt, great. Lets not have a say on that. But this apply to all human kind. Be apologetic, forgive to whom need and regretted. Why not? A simple theme makes this movie rocks my night.
The later is far beyond expectation. Not the film, but the crowd. I never been in a local presentation with a full house capacity. Which shows, all of their work is "highly appreciated". Why not? They give effort and brain to make such a product, outcome, that do, IT DOES, makes the Malaysian Moviegoers, run riot!
The reason why i'm craving to see the movie is because the trailer been played over and over again on Astro (which shows their marketing strategy working towards people like me). Its not even a trailer, its the original sound track (which not so originally meant for the movie). But it does, trigger me to went to cinema to watch it.
The villagers of Kampung Pisang strongly believes that Kak Limah had turn into ghost as they found corpse inside the house as plentiful of here-say seeing kak limah in horrified situation. Which cause havoc all over the village. In the most hilarious way.
I don't laugh all the way, cause i been waiting for the scene that been released on TV. That hairy muscular baboon-like figure really have the good when it comes to singing.
Yet, in the end, its all fake. Kak Limah is not a ghost, so whats wrong with going back to her house from psychiatric care. So whats the catch? "Teman nak tunjok kat kome wey, yang tema nih buleh jadi orang begune, teman gi cari keje kat sane nu bukan nye ape, teman nak chari ghete bebanyok, bia ter-PANCHOR!". Love Malaysian Brand.
Its going to have another sequel as the story not going to end there..
Between the two, I love both, its shows that both former and later collect Mega. Either its seriously religious, or seriously hilarious, both teach us something, something small, which makes a big different.
